how old are you/were you when you went?
I was there two years ago and it was great. visited just about all the monuments and watched the changing of the guard at the Tomb of The Unknown soldier. very touching and very American.
I visited the wall and read the names and letters/notes left upon it.
visited the Smithsonian and had a blast.
there was a lot to do!!!
if you like history.
sorry you missed out. maybe when you mature a little you’ll realize what you could have seen and maybe you’ll be back.
good luck

well my dear, im a washingtonian, have resided here for all my 27.5 years of living. and I must say, I am never bored here. DC and the surrounding MD & VA which are considered our suburbs has soooo much to do.
We have monuments, a ton of museums ( air & space is my favorite), great restaurants, great shopping, great nightlife, great parks, and excellent public transportation……… and that’s just in DC, I wont even break into all that MD and VA have to offer.
I did see that you said you came with your school…. and going anywhere on a school trip can be boring. What you should do is wait until your atleast 18 (if you are not already) and then come back with a few friends for a weekend (i don’t suggest winter, because are cold as all get out) but spring, summer and fall and check us out.
I’ll even put together a list of fun things for you to check out if you like. and if you don’t have fun and are still bored……. then darling,
it’s not my city……………………………… It’s you.

I always liked D.C. but when my husband and I went there three summers ago on our honeymoon, I really fell in love with it! Everything we did was amazing. It’s a fantastic place to go for a “plan it yourself” trip.
I’ll start with the place we stayed. We spent our time there in this great little bed and breakfast in Dupont Circle. Not only was it convenient–right near several amazing restaurants and across the street from a Metro station–the innkeeper was also amazing. It was kind of like staying with your dear aunt Sally–every morning, she made us breakfast to order and sent us on our way with snacks, bottled water, and sunscreen. She’d ask us where we were going and give maps, pointers, coupons, whatever we needed. It was a fantastic place to stay.
We went to all the big museums, Air and Space, Natural History, American History, all of the art museums. Within the museums we hit up most of the Imax movies and the platentarium show. We also spent a day just visiting monuments. We took a tour of the marine barracks. We went to Arlington National Cemetery where we took a tour and watched the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier. We also went to a marine band concert. We even popped up to inner harbor for a day and went sightseeing there too. Probably the most moving thing we did was go to the Holocaust Museum. My family is of Jewish heritage and actually fled to America long before Hitler came to power to avoid persecution. This was my favorite part of the trip because it reminded me that if my family had stayed, I might not even exist today.
The food and shopping there is great too. We were there for 7 days and tried a different type of food every night: Mediterranian, Japanese, Chinese, Middle Eastern, Italian, Mexican, Spanish, French, and American Fusion.
With the fantastic public transportation system there, getting to all the great shopping hot spots was a snap.
That’s what I did while I was there and that’s certainly not all there is to do! If you have internet access and a good mind for planning, the possibilities are endless!

I lived in MD (near to washington dc) years ago and loves every bits of it..I was there coz my dad has been transfered to DC and worked for the INTELSAT..and at the same time, i had to put myself busy and had great experiences working with the Grand Hyatt hotel!..simply love the environment there..people are amazing and there are so many things to do and explore..just like the others said..there are many places you can visit..perhaps you need some one experienced to get you out and about!…cheers!

I’m sorry that you were bored. May a I ask what in particular bored you? Was it the Museums, the galleries, the national landmarks or perhaps the historical sites…
It was truly fortunate that your hotel had something so unique as a swimming pool.
I am not sure where you are from, but here is a travel pointer in case you find yourself travailing to another Pep Rally (Since I believe it is safe to say, by reviewing your question that there are no spelling Bees or Grammar Rodeos in your immediate future). Lots of hotels around the nation, in fact the world, have swimming pools aka “Cement ponds” so always try to book your stay at these so you will not be bothered or bored by anything remotely educational….

Never heard a comment like that before. I really can’t think of a city that has more to offer than Washington. It may have been they took you to places you were just not interested in. I would hope someday you do go back, on your own, and see all the city has to offer. Curious as to where you are from.

I’ve never been bored in DC since I arrived here a year ago; Washington has grown on me since arriving here.
It’s too bad you didn’t enjoy yourself; did you try to enjoy yourself outside of the hotel pool?
