my mom and i are in desperate need of a nice but decently priced hotel in manhattan?
Hotel Pricestheboyslover asked:
for 2 days. we’ve tried all the hotel package deal sites and compared them to the room rates on the actual hotel website and we’re really not getting a good deal. whats the best way to go about getting reasonably priced hotels in manhattan? should we 86 the travel websites and go through a travel agency?

It couldn’t hurt to try a travel agency. You might catch a break with the recent economic downturn. The problem is one of supply and demand really. Good luck!

Ive been in the hotel industry for 4 yrs now, its hard to find a decent hotel in that area, the way the internet ” discount” sites work, is they have a contract with the individual hotels and get as low of a price as possible and then charge you an extra price, so when the hotel is really getting paid say $50, ur actually paying $80 and saving like $9… it really doesnt help you all that much. my best bet would be call around to the hotels and see if they would be willing to give you some sort of deal, sometimes people will be nice and give you a discount. Other than that u really dont have a chance unless you know someone in the industry that can get you a friends and family rate… Goodluck

Cassie suggested exactly what I was going to. call the hotels directly and speak to an agent and see if they can help you directly. If you belong to any associations they might be able to discount or if it is an off time, they might be able to discount. Don’t call the 800 numbers for chains, try to get the direct number for the hotel in Manhattan.
edit: I just remembered… call the Hotel Larchmont. It is in Greenwich Village. Very decently priced but books quickly.. Only downside, is depending on the room you may have to share a common bathroom but if that doesn’t bother you (can’t remember if they have private bathrooms too) than this is a great option.

Getting reasonably priced hotel rooms in NYC can be a real shot in the dark and pure luck sometimes. You might try searching on where you can set your price limit and see if anything decent comes up for the nights you are hoping to stay.
Check out Hotel Belleclaire. Sometimes they have specials or relatively decent prices and it’s a nice, clean hotel.
