Don’t stay in Newark its a bad area even though NJ transit runs out of Newark……Stay in Jersey City closer and safer you will take the path train into the city….or stay in the city you can find cheap lodging in the outer borough’s or in Westchester county…
For different area to stay in the shootings that areai would look at the trip into nyc is right there so the high rate of crimepoverty in that just occured couple of weeks ago and the shootings that same nyc.
The train system is alright and only about 20 mins to NY, but Newark is a run-down high crime area. You’d probably be ok as long as you take cabs to and from the hotel and train. It’s worth checking out hotels in Queens, there’s plenty near the airports and they are cheaper than Manhattan, I’m not sure how they compare to Newark, likely to be a bit more expensive. A lot of people are scared of Newark, but you can go there and survive, I have on several occasions, during the day and at night, and don’t forget hundreds of thousands of people survive living there day afyer day, it’s not Baghdad. Just exercise the same caution you would in any similar place.
