$170 per night at a comfort inn in midtown.

NYC is expensive, no matter what brand you pick. Try to stay in the times square/theater district if you can afford it. Expect to pay $250-400 for midscale & luxury + +
Suggest you check out price line and make a bid & work from there.

It depends on what time of year you’re planning on staying. We stayed at the comfort inn on 3rd or lex or something and it was 230 a night.

The lower priced hotels in NY are probably going to run you $150 to $250 per night.
