I’ve noticed that nearly all hotel or ryokan prices are per person in Japan. And the per person price is the same if it’s just one person or two. So the overall price is double when there’s two people staying in one room. This seems like a rip off. Does anyone have experience paying for just one person but then sneaking in a second?

Does anyone know of a decent hotel along a parade route, preferably St. Charles or somewhere downtown, that is not too expensive but still a decent hotel? Will prices drop for hotels in DC if I go Aug 12-15 or will they remaine the same?. My family is debating about staying in DC or right on the outskirts. I know in DC especially because of taxes the rooms would be more expensive. I have been told to go on a head and book a room and the reservation can be canceled if need be. I just don’t know how long is too long to wait for booking a room.
I was told because congress is in recess and there might not be a lot of tourist in August a lot of hotel rooms might be vacant. So, some hotels might drop their prices just to fill in some of the spaces.
